This desert tour from Ouarzazate takes you to the closest Saharan dunes – Erg Lihoudi near M’hamid. You start the tour by crossing part of the Anti-Atlas Mountains range, barren and spectacular with its rock formations.

Day 1: Ouarzazate – M’hamid El Ghizlane

Depart at 08:30 from Ouarzazate in a private 4×4, crossing the scenic Anti-Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass. Descend into Agdez, the gateway to the Dra’a Valley, and visit Kasbah Tamnougalte, the oldest in the region. Follow the ancient caravan route along palm groves and Berber villages, stopping at Tinsouline to explore the 4000-year-old rock carvings at Foum Chenna. Continue to Zagora for lunch, then Tamegroute to discover green-glaze pottery workshops and the historic Quranic Library. In the afternoon, venture 60 km off-road to the Erg Chegaga dunes, passing “erg” (sand dunes), “hammada” (stony desert), and desert oases. Day 3: Erg Chegaga Dunes – Ouarzazate

Wake early to watch sunrise over the dunes and explore the desert tranquility. Cross 90 km of stony desert to dry Lake Iriqui, with opportunities to spot fossils and experience desert mirages. Continue north through Foum Zguid and Taznakht, stopping to learn about traditional Berber rugs and carpets before enjoying lunch. Return to Ouarzazate by late afternoon, concluding your unforgettable 3-day Sahara adventure around 18:00.
